Do you Know Subluxations Increase Stress? Stressed Out?

All life faces threats to stress.  Just waking up in the morning creates a stress response.  It is unavoidable.  From an evolutionary perspective, stress is not all bad.  Stress is an adaptation that has supported our survival.  Most of us would not be here if our ancestors did not have a well-tuned stress response system to survive predators or invaders.

Stress is any sudden or intense disturbance, or disharmony of homeostasis.  Homeostasis is the body’s ability to maintain a stable internal physiological environment.  Stress affects our entire being, nerves, cells, tissues, glands, organs, and systems of the body.  Stress, if held can disrupt nervous, endocrine, and immune system functioning.  Acute stress produces the release of immune defenders, however will rebalance once threat subsides.  Chronic stress arises when there is no rebalance.

Chiropractic care will restore and preserve health, and reduce the effects of acute and chronic stress on the nervous system.  Spinal adjustments reduce and heal subluxations in the spine.  Subluxations are when the vertebrae comes out of alignment and causes pressure on the nervous system, impaired circulation, and creates imbalance in the surrounding muscles.  Subluxation pressure increases stress, and decreases our adaptability to stress.

The immune system is actively involved in homeostasis.  If homeostasis is not rebalanced, there is greater vulnerability to illness.  The body is better able to heal itself when it doesn’t have stress and interference in the nervous system.  This is an important concept for understanding health and disease and can be used as a predictor to disease vulnerability.

Stress is also correlated with the increases in hormone firing, such as the hormone Cortisol.  High levels of cortisol can be linked to physiological and psychological dis-eases.   High cortisol levels are associated with increased fasting blood sugar, high systolic and diastolic blood pressure, increased triglyceride levels, insulin levels, and insomnia.

Our survival and health depends on our adaptability to stress.  For good health, the best answer is preventative health care and stress management.  At Duggan Chiropractic we look at stress through multiple facets: structural, biochemical, neurological, and psychological.  At Duggan Chiropractic we can help calm your nervous system when it’s stressed, because adjustments are a part of life.   Call and schedule better health with Duggan Chiropractic, and find out more about what unique tests and treatments are best for you.  Thanks for choosing Duggan Chiropractic, we got your back.
